Sonar X1b Browser (short cut B), Auto-Preview and drag and drop Keyboard shortcuts like I for Inspector turn the feature on and off which is handy to clean up the screen and bring things back into focus when needed. Inspector contains the current Track and Master and can change from Clip, Track and ProChannel. The illustration shows the Inspector (keyboard shortcut I) on the left. The screen is fluid and can be whatever I need it to be. I find that very helpful when working on projects.

The scheme is very similar to Adobe Premier CS5 which has dockable and undockable windows that can be moved or re-sized. The Skylight screen has changeable / dockable windows that can be positioned as you like them. Again, old hands hate it and those used to logical Windows apps will find it easy. The controversial interface change includes a new look called Skylight, which is the illustration at the top. The Plug-in Manager is left out and still under Utilities. This is so handy to fix one of my big complaints about Sonar 8 that you had to hunt all over the place to find why your audio wasn’t working or a control surface stopped functioning. All of the settings for audio, midi, file locations and project are under the screen “Edit…Preferences”. The new interface is logically organized. The old hands disliked the new interface but anyone who wasn’t a hardcore Sonar 8.5.3 should love the new look. Windows 64-bit programs can access more than 4 GB which allows more tracks, plugins and events to be handled.įor people who used Sonar Producer everyday. I was a Cakewalk Sonar user for many years before switching to Cubase and in Sonar we had something called a “multidock window” which basically was a floating window you could place anywhere and dock any other floating window to. It would be really cool if you could dock/merge the mixer views into one windows with tabs, letting the user quickly jump between the different mixer setups using these tabs. In these cases it gets crowded with lots of windows especially if I want to have my two mixer views available as well.
Sometimes I’d really like to use that third screen for other things however, like the video feed when working with sounds for that and/or instances of instruments/plugins. Since I have three screens I like to have the main mixer with all channels on my seconds screen and another mixer on my third screen with just the the buses and outputs. I love how Cubase lets you configure and use 3 different mixer views.
